Gambling Addiction, Where to go for help

Quitting from a gambling addiction might be next to impossible for many gamblers. This addiction can cause disruption in one’s family life. It can also, affect your physical and emotional health. People who suffer from gambling addiction tend to be consumed by gambling, overly aggressive when they don’t get to play or indulge in their favorite activity, or heading for financial ruin. Nevertheless, there are ways and mediums set up to help people who have a gambling addiction.

The anti-addiction group or program Gamblers Anonymous is a popular choice. They provide steps that you can follow and work to achieve goals. This is a twelve step program meeting are held so persons can attend discuss their issues and get support from fellow gamblers. They are also grouped with sponsors who have defeated the addiction. No payment is needed to join Gamblers Anonymous, it is free. Persons can attend meeting whenever they want, but they encourage you to follow the principles of the twelve step program. They understand that persons will have difficulty and falter along the way. Here, you will be able to call on your sponsors at anytime. Further information is available online.

Another means of support for gamblers is the National Council on Problem Gambling. They are a hub of support and resources. Persons who are searching for help within their city or town can contact or look them up on the internet. If you have need to visit or stay at inpatient treatment centers then they also have information to direct you to one close to you. They also have a network of counselors that you can have access to in your area.

There is an online guide that is also helpful for gamblers. This is the Problem Guiding Guide. The website is http://www.problemgamblingguide.com. Here you will find links, resources, and information on how to contact gambling assistance agencies in your area. They offer help to the family of gamblers as well. Many families go through the problems of gambling with the gambler. They suffer from stress, depression or just situations caused from tension. They need support and guidance as well. Problem Guiding Guide also has information on the signs of gambling addiction, what to look for and how to give support and compassion to addicts. For gamblers they post information on how to quit, what to do about your finances, how to speak with friends and family about your addiction and many other resources.

The National Foundation for Credit Counseling is another resource. Their assistance comes in the form of advising and helping you to deal with debt. Many persons go into financial problems because of gambling and they are there to tell you how to deal with it and recover from it.
