Jamaica and Chikungunya

Jamaica and Chikungunya

Leave it to Jamaicans to take a very serious situation, use their creativity and make a joke or fun of it. The Jamaica Chikungunya song is awesome. Lyrical, witty, enjoyable, groovy and fun to listen to. I promise, you will be laughing or smiling all day. Why? Because most of the things Wayne J sings about Chikungunya, is funny but true.

The song made its way around Whatsapp and Blackberry apps on Sunday, September 28, 2014 and by the next day, Facebook was rocking to this funny Chikungunya song by Wayne J.

Contrary to reports, there are thousands of people in Jamaica with the chikungunya virus; not the measly 37 that’s been officially report. Our hospitals, medical centers and clinics are filled with ailing people, walking around like patients with severe arthritis. From screaming babies, wailing children, moaning adults and contorted elderly folks; everyone is catching this debilitating disease.

Politicians and doctors are now saying, “It is endemic to Jamaica”. For all who do not understand that word, it means it is as Jamaican as ackee and salt-fish. Presently Jamaicans are displeased with the government, for not being better prepared to adequately deal with the situations. Anxiety is high, morale is low and no one wants to know what would happen to our almost 3 million citizens if visited by the Ebola virus.

Nevertheless, through all the cussing, complaining and crying, we can rock to the tunes from young Wayne J, who is sure to become an instant hit.

Take a listen to the song, it can be found on YouTube. I have also transcribed the lyrics below for you. It is in Jamaican Patois for all you non-Jamaicans. 🙂 Good luck.

Hi Denise! Do you know a place where I can find Yellowman’s Jamaica Nice/Take Me Home Country Roads lyrics? I just can’t find it (and trust me, I’ve tried everything on Google 😉

By the way, I am from Brazil and I think lyrics are the best way to learn a language and understand a culture.

    best wishes!
