Dealing with Workplace Harassment: The Whispers, The Spies and The Lies

The spies are all about. Circling, watching, whispering.

“I ain’t scared of no ghosts!”

My fear is reserved for God!

Today, I caught them watching me from afar, no doubt saying a few choice words about me. But, I am not the type to be intimidated. After all, I see the things that go bump in the night; so it takes a great deal more to scare me.

With my imagination, I supply the script to what the ‘two sisters’ are no doubt saying.

Really, I don’t care anymore. I can breathe again. The headaches and tension pains are less. I still battle to control the adrenaline that rushes through my veins and grinds my heart when I see my ‘horrible boss’. It gets easier everyday.

The more I forgive and let go, the healthier I feel.

If labor laws and due diligence did not exist, these people who practice the ‘unethical’, would have me fired, tarnished my name and cooked me in my own fat (and there’s lots of that); without batting an eyelash.

Who am I to report one of the owners to HR?!

Ethics is not a word understood in this place; neither is it practiced.

There should be a law against such people owning companies and mistreating people; half of the staff attend their church!

The circle of ‘Family and Friends’ have been in my direct path; each day they gather under the tree and speak seven more curses and blasphemy to my name. But thank God none will stick.

I simply walk pass. None too afraid. A lesser person would be intimidated, but not I. They could ‘nepotise’ the whole family into this place, I ain’t scared.

Apart from being disgusted with the absence of professionalism; I no longer look forward to setting foot on these premises. I think this is a general consensus for many of the staff; but they either eat from the tree of cowardice or have been made an example of, and so they peek out, silently cheering me on. There is more murmurings in those shadows, than sand on the beach!

Many people suffer in silence; ridden by stress and abuse. Workplace harassment is a reality. It is abuse just like physical abuse! We should not tolerate it just because someone is paying us every month. I encourage you to rise up and protect yourselves. Report it and stop this immoral occurrence in the workplace.
