Surgeries are expensive. Most people go into debt, just to try and cover this huge medical bill. If you have insurance, then this bill might be manageable. But, if you are lacking and your pockets are not lined with gold coins; you will find that these medical bills, after doing a fibroid surgery can become burdensome. In Jamaica, this is a common experience for sufferers of this black woman’s disease.

There are several hospitals to choose from, both public and privately run, in Kingston.

  • Andrews Memorial Hospital (private)
  • Kingston Public Hospital (KPH)
  • Medical Associates Hospital (private)
  • Nuttall Memorial Hospital (private)
  • St. Joseph’s Hospital
  • University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI)

Private hospitals are considered to be for people of means or people who cannot deal with the hassle and long waiting periods of public hospitals. St. Andrews hospital is one such. The cost for room and board could take half a year’s salary for most Jamaicans, if not all of it. Careful and precise planning will be needed, when one considers St.Andrews.

Back in 2000, a fibroid surgery, whether myomectomy or hysterectomy would range from $100,000 to just under $200, 000.

In September 2016 I paid $500,000 for a myomectomy. The surgery was done at St. Josephs through a private doctor. At that time it was about $200,000 more at Andrews. Guess what the fibroids are back.

Tanya..this last year wow. I shared a few more articles on my recovery process. There are things that went wrong…like the hospital bill doubling, them charging you for every cotton ball. The allergy to the adhesive tape and the rash that develope…no one tells you these things.

I already have a book that I am writing about my experience.

In Guyana you can get this surgery done with experienced and qualified OBGYN inclusive of private rooms for US $ 5000 inclusive of air flight.
