Treasures of Colombia: Huevo al Vapor-Steamed Egg (Colombian Street Food)

Breakfast always leaves me feeling rejuvenated to start the new day; it is said that it’s the most important meal of the day.

A short while ago I was in Bogota the capital city of Colombia and in the early hours of the morning the pangs of hunger hit and so I went in search of food.

I entered the only restaurant that was opened at that hour which is called El Corral – a hamburger joint. Although I didn’t have any appetite for burgers I knew that I had to have something to satisfy the hunger.

Whilst browsing through the billboard menu I caught sight of an egg sandwich that beckoned to me instantly – he knows his number one fan when he sees him. Ignoring all the succulent looking burgers I automatically ordered the sandwich.

After a few minutes, I sat down to enjoy the beautifully displayed sandwich; after unwrapping it I realized how fluffy it was and then I realized that it was neither fried nor scrambled but steamed. Of course I have never eaten a steamed egg before but I must say that it was really tasty and filling.

So when you visit Colombia and you want to experience eggs in a unique way you can visit any of the El Corral fast food restaurants. Also, you can steam your own eggs in your rice cooker…as I did, and it tasted great!
