Backgammon is one of the oldest board games; much older than Chess and Go. This game is played by people of varying ages, nationalities and culture. Commonly the game is played by two or more persons; with each player attempting to get rid of all their pieces from off the board.

There are several components used to play a Backgammon game. These include a Backgammon board, fifteen checker pieces for each player, two or four six sided die, doubling cube, and an opponent. Players of today will discover Backgammon on the back of checkers boards; as both games use similar pieces.  Backgammon games are also played online. Hence, you opponent can sometimes be a computer programme or a player in a different part of the world.

Now unto the rules of the Backgammon game. The board’s opposing sides have triangles that are drawn on them. These triangles are called points and are numbered from one to twenty four. The home board and outer board range from points one to six and seven to twelve, respectively. A vertical bar separates both sides of the board. The pieces that are taken by each player are kept until they return into the game.

The checker pieces are set up on the board in a certain manner. Two of the pieces are placed on point twenty four, three pieces on point eight, five pieces placed on six and five pieces on point thirteen. This adds up to thirty pieces of checkers on the board. Both players will get a chance to roll the die, and the competitor with the highest throw will begin the game. If both participants throw the same value die, they will get a chance to throw again.

Backgammon_boardThe objective of the Backgammon game is to reach the inner side of the board. This will eliminate them from the game. The game is played counter clockwise, throwing the dice and moving your pieces the amount of time dictated by your throw. As you are using two dice, you can move up to two pieces on the board at each throw. Or you may choose to move one piece two times. Throwing doubles gives any player the opportunity to move more times, or more up to four pieces. For instance, if a player throws double six, he can move one piece six places, or up to four pieces six places each.

There aren’t many limitations in a . These limitations govern where on the board you can move and how you can move your checker pieces. Players can only move to a higher number and not to a lower numbered point. Also, pieces can only be moved to empty spaces, spaces that have only your pieces, or a point that has only one of your opponents’ pieces. In the latter instance, you would have captured your competitor’s piece, which can be removed to the bar. If your pieces are captured, then you are not allowed to move any other piece until they are back in play. The first player to move all their pieces to the inner board and remove them from the game will be the winner.

Jamaican Gambling: How to Write Off Gambling Losses on Taxes

Billions of dollars is generated by the gambling industry each year. In many cities that are gaming centric, such as Las Vegas and Atlantic City, their businesses are open twenty fours a day to cater to their clientèle. People of all nations and background do gambling. Not only that, there are numerous scratch and wins, lotto, mega million or super lotto games carried on television, and tickets can be bought in corner stores. Because of this, the revenue generated on a daily basis is substantial. Governments see this as an opportunity to use tax the funds and cover many fiscal costs for their country; hence the taxation on any form of gambling.

The losses from your gambling adventure are tax deductible. However, you can only do so if it is less than or equals your winning sum. Taxation is applied to any winnings, earnings, or losses incurred by gambling. This includes online and other activities such as card games, horse racing, bingo, slot machine, lotteries and the online casino or gaming versions as well. The gaming establishments are required to submit a form to the government or IRS reporting on your winnings; for that reason it is unlikely that you can get away with not paying up. If you pay taxes on your gambling losses or winnings, you will become familiar with a number of things. These include a Form 1040, losing lottery tickets, Form W-2G, and keeping the statements of from gambling losses and a diary on any gambling expenses or revenue.

Gambling establishments inclusive of race tracks, casinos, television contests, or lotteries are required by law to prepare and submit to the IRS a W-2G Form of any player who has earned cash, or kind from a game. In addition, they should give a copy of this form to the winner as well. If you win something other than cash, say a car, boat or other type of vehicle you will need to estimate the fair market value of that item. Sometimes the businesses will include this on the W-2G form that you have been given. If this is not so, then you will need to research t hat value. This may be done by going through a blue book for vehicles, or looking at other similar items, and using that cost as the value of the item.

Once you know the value, of your item, you should total what your gambling losses came to. This should be done for all gambling activities throughout the year. Then minus the amount you have lost from the amount you have won. The deduction cannot exceed how much you have won. For example, if for that year you lost thirteen thousand dollars and then you won fourteen thousand five hundred dollars, you can only deduct thirteen thousand dollars. The IRS will not cover the remaining loss value. This amount cannot be brought forward to the upcoming year either. Another important step is to list your losses on Form 1040. You will indicate the losses on line twenty eight and the winnings on line twenty one. Make sure you keep all your papers as proof in case you are audited.

Setting a gambling budget is very important. People are more susceptible to overspending on a gambling vacation than a onetime visit; especially if you are spending time in that location for several days. Professional gamblers have a greater chance of managing their spending, but amateur gamblers will have more difficulty and try to recoup their losses. Have your spouse, significant other or friend to manage your money if you deem that you are having some difficulty. Leaving some of your credit or debit cards at home is another strategy. Also, you can take a card that has a predetermined limit and pay up for or set aside money for any incurred expenses outside of gambling.
