Jamaican Poetry: Taking risks

My eyes are wide open when I jump into the deep,

I have no misconceptions of landing on my feet;

Though I may drown, the thrill is worth the risk

I’ll pocket this moment

and in my old age look back, smile and remember the thrill of it.

My eyes are wide open when I jump into the deep,

with waves like rabbits

skipping on sounds;

I’ll pocket this moment

and in my young days, pray that I won’t drown.- Poetess Denise Fyffe
