My Jamaican heritage
Is more than just where I was born
It is more than the color of my skin
It is more than the language I speak;
My Jamaican heritage is the combination of everything;
My Jamaican heritage is the struggles I face
My Jamaican heritage is the enjoyment
of a Jamaican sunrise and sunset at the end of the day
My heritage is all that my ancestors left to me
My heritage is all they fought for, for me to be free;
My Jamaican heritage is precious and pure
My Jamaican heritage opens many doors
My heritage can be heard in the accent that resonates from me
My heritage is more than the blood running through me;
My Jamaican heritage is all of me;
It’s my skin
It’s my voice
It’s my walk
It’s my blood
It’s the hills and valleys
It’s the sun and moon
And we will be aging,
Jamaica 50, soon.
