It was a grand Sunday night in Rio, at the 2016 Olympics. The stadium experienced a long awaited feat, that of breaking Michael Johnson’s old world record, by Wayde Van Niekerk of South Africa, in the men’s 400 meters.
Surely, it was a great night in Brazil when with 43.03 seconds Wayde Van Niekerk of South Africa blew away Kirani James of Grenada and LaShawn Merritt of the USA, to become a olympic champion and world record-holder.

Kirani James, the youth from Grenada, who captured our minds and hearts, did not get his Olympic gold. He was denied by Wayde Van Niekerk of South Africa, who broke the world record with 43.03s.
