Master the Art of Writing

You can’t get away from it. Every great artist knows that practice and discipline will make you a great artist. The same concept applies to your writing. After a while, you will flow like the Niagara Falls. These concepts are built on knowing as much as you can about your area of expertise, and expertise requires knowledge and experience.

This is why it is important to study the art of writing. This process will help you to become a better author and working writer. In addition, it will help you to improve your writing style and flow.

So, where do you start in your study?

Apply the ‘5Ws and How’ in Writing

Use the guiding principles of the ‘5Ws and How’ in writing, and you will bring better focus to your craft. Be eager to study all you possibly can and answer these questions below:

•    How do you write certain materials?

•    What are you writing about?

•    Who are you writing for?

•    Why are you writing a particular piece?

•    When do you know to write what?

•    Where is your content going?

This principle must be applied every time you write. In time, you will see that it becomes second nature and your mind will be attuned to answering these questions automatically. When you consistently ask and answer these questions, your writing becomes more intentional. You stop writing blindly and start writing with purpose, clarity, and direction.

This is how you move from simply putting words on a page to crafting meaningful, targeted content.
