He was so unsuspecting. He snuck up on her, in a place, where she would not expect him to be. Yet, he was everything she wanted. No, he was not perfect, but he was perfect for her. He never judged her and he loved her to the nth degree. He showed affection, continually. He cooked, cleaned, … Continue reading Short Story #3: Love’s Story
Her heart raced as she realised where she was. Keys jingled across the room and light footsteps made its way towards her.
Thomas stopped mid-stride on his way out the door. His heart was heavy, as an anchor in the Chesapeake Bay. He turned, took a few steps and looked at the woman he had loved for fifteen years.
Jamaicans consider themselves spiritually blessed as they have the most churches per square mile. Jamaica also has the most talented people in music, arts and athletics and are creative, have a love for life, blessed with a beautiful and luscious island paradise. There are high pristine Blue Mountains, the un-spoilt Cockpit Country, good vibes and jamming music floating everywhere you go.
The everyday man misses the unique gifts which are upon him daily. Where else does almost every home have a fruit tree in the backyard; usually there are several of them. Jamaica has tens of thousands of towering mango trees, ackee trees, breadfruit, or our national flower lignum vitae trees. The countryside is lined with succulent cherry, plums, apple and so many delicious morsels from God’s garden.
All around you will see children playing and laughing, up to some Anancy mischief; but they are happy. Hunger is mostly kept at bay because there are trees bearing food everywhere and most neighbours are willing to allow you to pick from their trees. Mango, banana, ackee, pear, sweet sop, soursop, apple, papaya, june plum, hog plum, orange, grapefruit, cherry and much more.
Jamaica is a paradise indeed.

These poems are meant to give insight and understanding to those who have experiences in common and can find solidarity in the fact that grief, loss and depression is a shared reality for all.

“This book is a compilation of poems that I wrote while going through depression. I hope it gives you some understanding of the depressed mind. Some take life for granted and they shouldn’t. Right now, the suicide levels are increasing and the bereaved are left wondering what happened. Grief is often times unbearable and depression is often a result of this.-Poetess Denise Fyffe”
