Chief, the Anatolian Shepherd Dog Diary: Love at First Sight

Chief, the Anatolian Shepherd Dog Diary: Love at First Sight

by: Denise N. Fyffe

April 11, 2026, was the fated day I came in contact with the new love of my life.

He sat there calm, cool, collected, while the world erupted with sharp outbursts around us. His nonchalant eyes appraised me with aloofness and confidence. He was the star of the show, and he knew it.

Everyone else was a distraction and could not compare.

His tongue hung down as he glanced from left to right, taking in the man by my side. But I could tell he already knew he would grab a piece of my heart.

We looked at each other.

I scanned his chart.

He sipped some water and went out the small door behind him, disappearing with the kind of effortless swagger that said, So, that’s how you want to play it, huh? Hard to get?

I had seen him a few nights before on the Charles County.gov website.. It was love at first sight. He was the first one I saw who made me say, I’ve got to have him. He is the one I want.

I scanned the website, looked at everyone else — multiple times. But I kept coming back to him. He was just my type: strong, powerful, unassuming, and dangerously quiet. He had a red bandana around his neck, but I knew that was not his style. It was just for the photoshoot.

Even then, beneath his cheeky smile, you could tell there was a gentle soul with raw power ebbing beneath. And I wanted him to be mine.

I stayed up till midnight doing further research on him and his family. As I thought, he had a rich history — ancient lineage that went back at least 6,000 years. Impeccable background. A guardian by birthright. A protector by design.

And now, somehow, fate had placed him in my path.
