Welcome to The Island Journal, the online home of Jamaican Writer and Poet, Denise N. Fyffe. Representing all things Jamaica
Usain Bolt did it again, he is the Olympic 100 metres Champion; the only man in history to do so legitimately. It is now an undeniably fact that Jamaica is the top country for sprinting in the world. This has been proven not only once, but twice in the Beijing Olympics and now the London 2012 Olympics. Yohan Blake 9.75 and Usain Bolt 9.63 have made every Jamaican proud and delivered a well deserving Jamaica 50 birthday gift.
It is not only a highly euphoric atmosphere in London, England tonight, but the horns and pot covers can be heard sounding and clanging all through Jamaica; especially in the major cities. Though there is a thunder storm to the south of Jamaica that’s causing rain and severe wind damage, every Jamaican is jubilant and celebrating in the streets.
The London 2012 Olympics 100m finals was the fastest 100m race in history. Every sprinter went under 10.00 except Asafa Powell who stumbled and pulled up half way through the race. Justin Gaitlin came through for third place and Trinidad and Tobago’s Richard Thompson placed seventh. Tyson Gay 9.8 had to settle for fourth place.
Most of these men are due to compete in what will also be an exciting 200 metre Olympic final.
