Asafa Powell is a man of history, making history and he will stay in history; his sacrifice at the Jamaica National Trials 2012 should also be noted. He has the most sub ten times of any 100m runner, ever. Even with all these great times, he has also been one of our most chastised athletes; with all this said, Asafa Powell went out and ran the Jamaican National Trials, injured.
As Jamaicans we have a tendency to run our mouths and show bad face to someone we show good face to
yesterday. It was in the news earlier today, that Asafa was suspected to be injured and might not run any more races in the Jamaica National Trials.
He proved his naysayers wrong. One of Asafa’s strongest traits is humility; even though he is a racing car loving guy, who one would expect to be cocky and egotistical, Asafa Powell is not. He has maintained his running form, in terms of times and has slowly matured into a great athlete.
Like Usain Bolt, he has earned an Order of Distinction from the Government or Prime Minister; and therefore Asafa Powell should be no less treated. The Jamaican people should take note of his sacrifice and even greater arm to himself and his running career. They should also hope that no great damage was done and Jamaica can have all three of the fastest men, not only in the world, but in history.
This is an ode to a great Jamaican sprinter.
