Honestly, what are your true, unbiased opinions of the London 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony? Over the past 24 hours, I have been combing the social media websites and several articles; the feedback is quite in keeping with my initial reaction. That is, I was bored and felt out of touch, for the most part.
The London 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony, at points, had me confused; however there were moments where my interest was piqued. Certainly, I was not going to tune out without seeing my beloved Jamaican Olympic Team do their walk in the 2012 Summer Olympics Parade of Nations.
When you are planning an event and broadcasting to over one billion people, above all else, your aim is to be
remembered and even competitively better than the last. A ceremony of this magnitude must be spectacular, breathtaking, unforgettable, culturally unique without excluding your audiences interest.
There were funny moments in the series of events of the London 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony: such as when James Bond aka 007’s Daniel Craig went to pick up the Queen, the orchestra with Rowan Atkinson and not much else, until the athletes marched in. The ‘history of British dance and night club session’ was certainly way too long.
The orchestra bit will be a classic memory of the event because the entire world can identify with Mr. Bean‘s antics; he was hilarious too, in his sketch. The British is known, internationally, for a lot of rich experience; especially in terms of their culture, music and film history. With that said, they had way more options and dramatic routes they could have taken, to entertain the world for four hours and with over one billion pairs of eyes watching the London 2012 Olympics.
It is great to want to include great athletes and sports stars in the London 2012 Olympics who have made a rich contribution, however, the segment with Muhammad Ali’s helper, bidding him to wave, smile, touch the flag, etc. (pay close attention to his facial expression) was very difficult to watch. He has done his part and he should now be allowed to rest; especially if he is not capable of ably participating on his own. That was an unnecessary embarrassment.
Another awkward moment to watch, was the entrance of the British Olympic Team, cut away to the Queen of Britain fiddling and paying more interest in her nails. The expression on her face, did not help matters either. every other dignitary and official there were rather jubilant when their teams entered the stadium in the 2012 Summer Olympics Parade of Nations.
I certainly did not think that the Olympic Opening Ceremony was as glorious as it could be. England has the great honour of being the only country to host the London Olympics three times. As with all things the man in charge, Danny Boyle, has to shoulder the responsibility of its flop or success. Nonetheless it was highly commendable to celebrate the National Health Service.
